Berdine Potts

Berdine Potts, of Rock Cave, departed this world on Thursday, August 30, 2012, after a brief stay at Paula's Home, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born May 4, 1923, to the late Jay and Ollie O'Dell Pritt Lewis both of Rock Cave. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sydney James Potts, grandson, Christopher O'Neill Boyles, two brothers, Ren Lewis of Oklahoma and Willard "Honey" Lewis of Summersville. Surviving siblings are Zelma Gibson and Denzil Lewis both of Rock Cave. Also surviving are her three children, Gary Lee Potts and wife Rosemary of Gassaway, James O'Neill Potts of Cameron and Dolores Potts Boyles and husband Stanley of Rock Cave. Berdine proudly saw the birth of seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; William Michael Potts and wife Lisa, of Palmyra, VA; Shawn Leigh Farrell and husband Brad, of Clayton, NC, their children are Teagan Judith and Padraig Seamus; David Stanley Boyles and wife, Christina of Buckhannon and their children, David Aaron, Shanna Marie and Grayson Wayne; Eric Matthew Potts and wife, Genie of Columbus, OH and their children, Jacob Daniel, Cole James and Katelyn Beth; Jamie Potts Franklin of Columbus, OH and her daughter, Ryan Alexa; Michelle Lee Boyles Curry and husband Jason of Bangor, Maine and their children, Sydney Lee, Casey Jo, Cameron O'Neill and Tara Elizabeth. Berdine was an exceptional business woman who, among her many pursuits, owned and operated both her own gasoline station and general merchandise store, and was a government contracted mail route operator with numerous employees. Berdine was a lifelong member of the Rock Cave United Methodist Church and was active in the Upshur County Republican Committee for several years. She leaves a rich legacy of love and memories and will be sorely missed. Graveside services and interment will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at 2:00 PM, at the Rock Cave Cemetery with Pastor David Jessie and Rev. Kara Phillippi officiating. The family wishes to request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joseph's Hospice, 1 Amalia Dr., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
