Dale G. Colerider

Dale G. Colerider passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the age of 93 years old. Mr. Colerider was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Lou Garton Colerider. The Coleriders resided in Buckhannon, West Virginia and Rockledge, Florida and would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in September. Mr. Colerider served on the USS Minard in World War II and enjoyed keeping in touch with Navy buddies and attending their reunions over the years. Together with his sister, Margaret Smallridge, and their spouses, they built and operated the Kanawha Theatre. In addition to running the Theatre during the evening and on weekends, Mr. Colerider built many beautiful homes in the Buckhannon area as a partner of Colerider & Marple Construction. Known to friends and family as “The Chief,” he was a member of the Buckhannon Country Club as well as an avid fly-fisherman, gardener, home-chef and West Virginia Mountaineer fan. Known as Pappaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was a wonderful story teller of days gone by in both Upshur County as well as his service and travels with the United States Navy. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Deborah and Robert Kittle of Buckhannon and Gary and Debbie Colerider of Rockledge, Florida. Two grandchildren and their spouses: Cynthia and John McQuiston of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Robert II (Rob) and Tonya Kittle of Buckhannon. Four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Andrew McComas of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Taylor and McKenzie Kittle of Buckhannon, West Virginia. In addition, one sister-in-law “Winnie” Garton of Buckhannon and several dear nieces and nephews survive. Mr. Colerider was preceded in death by his parents, R. R. Colerider and Pearl Garrett Colerider as well as his siblings, Brownie Hazelton Colerider and Margaret Smallridge, her husband, Bud Smallridge and a very special nephew and fellow Mountaineer fan, Roger Smallridge. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Serenity Care Home for the excellent care that was provided to both Mr. and Mrs. Colerider during their time as residents. At his request, the body will be cremated. A memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Colerider will be held at a later date.
