Paul Robert Shaw

Paul Robert Shaw was given the ultimate promotion to join our heavenly Father Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in the comfort of his home with family and friends. He was the son of Robert and Edna Harlan Shaw born and raised in Ten Mile, WV. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Lodge Shaw of 52 years. He is survived by one son, George David and wife Sharon of Buckhannon; daughters, Sondra “Sonnie” Shaw of Buckhannon and Linda Burge of Akron, OH; four grandchildren; Keri, husband Bill Lane, Bryan Shaw all of Buckhannon; Kim, husband Steve Mergen and Heather, husband Mike Grubb all of Ohio, along with five great grandchildren. Paul was an agriculturalist and retired engineer from the B&O and C&O railroad. He was hired as a fireman on the steam engines. Later he studied diligently to pass the test to become an engineer. Paul loved the railroad. Paul was a former first aid instructor. He was an energetic, environmentalist that believed man was to be a good steward of the land. He instilled a solid work ethic to all that had the opportunity to work with him. Paul was a determined, strong-willed man that expected the best from himself and those he came into contact. A day never went by that he did not accomplish something. He planned ahead and anticipated the possibilities. Paul was a conservative man that lived through the Depression. He believed that one should work for what they have and not to expect others to provide. While growing up he participated in numerous church activities in the vicinity of Ten Mile. Later, he attended Christian Fellowship Church. He was a member of the Tennerton Lions Club, Upshur County Livestock Association, past board member of Farm Bureau. Paul had been an active member in the Upshur County Tax Payers Association, and the State Road committee. He had received the Upshur County Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year twice. Paul raised beef cattle on the family farm at Ten Mile and continued the tradition after moving to Post Mill in 1981. One of Paul’s main loves was his black lab, Toby, which he adored. They would tour the farm on the 4-wheeler. He thoroughly enjoyed the companionship. Paul remained active on the family farm throughout his life. Paul was devoted to his family. At the request of the deceased his body will be cremated. Private family services and interment will be at a later date at the Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery in care of Robert Landis, HC 36, Box 342, Tallmansville, WV 26327.
