Zela Maye Morris Haymond

Zela Maye Morris Haymond, age 82, a former lifelong resident of the Rock Cave area, Arlington community, went home to be with her Lord, on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon, WV, where she had made her home for the past five years. She was born on November 4, 1932, in Eden, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Porter and Inzie Mabel Rice Morris. She was united in marriage to John Gilbert “Gib” Haymond on Friday, June 20, 1952, at the Eden Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin, Jr. performing the ceremony; “Gib” preceded her in death on March 17, 1998. She is survived by four sons: John Gilbert Haymond, Jr. and wife Penny of Buckhannon, Charles Morgan Haymond and wife Debbie of Elkins, Timothy Allen Haymond of French Creek, and Marshell Lee Haymond and wife Elizabeth of Rock Cave; nine grandchildren: Justin Garrett Haymond and wife Bethany of Kingwood, WV, Kendel Marie Guthrie and husband John of Frenchton, WV, Jarrod Granville Haymond and wife Kara of Cabot, Arkansas, Joel Grayson Haymond and wife Sabrina of Buckhannon, Andrea Morgan Haymond of Lewisburg, WV, Matthew Allen Haymond of French Creek, Ian Marshell Haymond of Sand Fork, WV, Jacob Haymond of Sutton, WV, and Zane P. Haymond of Sutton, WV; four great-grandchildren: Garrett Joseph Haymond of Kingwood, Eva Marie Guthrie of Frenchton, Quinn Daphne Haymond of Cabot, Arkansas, and Grayson Ryder Haymond of Buckhannon; one sister Mabel Kathleen “Katy” McKisic of Heaston Ridge; several nieces and nephews who she loved as her own: Leslie P. Haymond, Karen Oliver, Jonathan Williams, Brenda Williams LeClair, Shirley Williams Grogan, Dale Williams, James “Jim” Morris, Vivian Hupp, Lois Snyder, Miral Gibson, and A. D. McKisic; and several great nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother James Eugene Morris; two sisters: her twin, Zeta Gray Williams, and Charleen P. Haymond; one grandson Ethan Marshell Haymond; and one niece Sheila Williams. Zela was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Arlington where she attended faithfully until her illness took her from the area. She sang in several gospel groups traveling about the area to many different churches. In addition to her singing, she was an avid quilter and artist. No matter how many stopped in for dinner unexpectedly at her home, there was always enough food to go around as she loved to cook and try new recipes. Zela was retired from the Upshur County Board of Education, where she began as a part time cook and later was secretary at the Rock Cave School for many years. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 4-8:00 PM, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The body will be moved to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Arlington on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, and will lie-in-state from 10-11:00 AM, the funeral hour, with Pastor Michael Wamsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
