John Davis Cain

John Davis Cain, age 92, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his home. He was born to the late Lester Francis and Julia Sharps Cain at Alton, West Virginia on February 21, 1920. He was united in marriage on November 1, 1947, to Marjorie Marie Hays of Nebraska, who survives. Also surviving are three sons: Mark (Marianne) of Philadelphia, PA, Warren (Jackie) of North Carolina, and Laird (Alice) of Buckhannon; one daughter, Sharon; three granddaughters: Julie (Doyle) Tenney, Savannah (Cody) Servetas, and Taylor; three grandsons: Daniel, Patrick (LaVetta), and Logan; two great grandchildren: Gavin and Caleb, and a third on the way; nine nieces and nephews also survive. John was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorris Cain of Wilmington, Delaware, and Anna Bell Joynes of Baltimore, Maryland; and two brothers: Eugene Cain of southern West Virginia, and Paul (died as an infant). John served in the Navy for 4 ½ years at various stations, one of which was as a naval air cadet in Nevada, where he met Marjorie, who was teaching there at the time. John has held many offices in the United Methodist church. He was an active member of the Upshur County Lions Club, worked with community groups, and was the liaison between the District and the French Creek Scout troop. He worked in the State Police in southern West Virginia for 5 years and as a captain in the guard force at the Atomic Energy plant in Portsmith, Ohio for 3+ years. He retired as Maintenance Superintendent from Corning in Buckhannon, WV, and then worked as a real estate salesman during his retirement in Sarasota, Florida. He returned to his home in French Creek, WV, and remained active in the French Creek United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 20, 2012, from 4-7:00 PM, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 10:00 AM, at the French Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert F. Heavner and the Rev. Nancy Killingsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the French Creek Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crosslines through your church.
